There are no error codes on this equipment and it does not need any — a fan that will not run, a fan stuck on one speed, a light that flickers and a hood that moves no air are four different problems you can tell apart from the kitchen floor. ### What the salt does

Near the water, the outside end of the duct is the part that ages. A wall cap or a roof cap with a corroded damper stops opening properly, and the first symptom is not a noise but a kitchen that stays smoky with a hood that sounds perfectly healthy. Worth checking from outside before anyone opens the hood.

In a high-rise the answer is very often recirculating, whether or not the person who bought the apartment knows it. That changes the maintenance completely: the charcoal filter is the whole system, it is not washable, and once it is saturated the hood is moving air around the room and doing nothing else.
