# Bosch cooktop & induction repair

### Most codes here are the appliance protecting itself

An induction cooktop is a set of coils and a lot of power electronics under a sheet of glass, and every protection it has comes with its own published code: the zone too hot for the work surface, the electronics too hot, hot cookware left standing over the control panel, a zone left running untouched for hours. In each case something switches off and waits. It reads as a failure and it is the opposite.

### The ventilation gap

These need the air gap the installation instructions specify, and the two things that most often remove it are a kitchen refitted around an existing cooktop and a drawer beneath it packed to the top. A top that has been overheating for a year eventually stops doing it politely.

### Gas and rangetops

Gas tops speak a different language — an igniter clicking without catching, a burner cap a millimeter out of position, blocked ports after a boil-over, a flame lifting off the burner. The useful information is whether it is one burner or all of them: one is the burner, all of them is upstream.

What this involves

Zones cutting out under load

Touch controls and the panel lock

Induction modules and coil wiring

Protection or failure

Overheat, time limit, hot pan on the panel, panel lock — every one has its own code and every one is the appliance working. Half these calls end here.

The ventilation gap

The one under the counter that the installation instructions specify and a full drawer removes. A top that cuts out reliably after twenty minutes at high power is usually being suffocated.

Supply, if the code says supply

The voltage code is about the building, not the cooktop. We measure it rather than replacing anything, and sometimes the answer is an electrician.

Then the electronics

The generator module, the coil and the wiring between them. Modules are the expensive half of this appliance and worth diagnosing rather than swapping.
