# Bosch ice maker & water repair

### Slow ice comes before no ice

An ice maker almost never stops overnight. A full bin becomes a half bin, then a third, over several weeks, and by the time it is empty the cause has been there a while. Almost every cause on the list is cheaper to fix while the machine is still limping.

### Where it usually is

- The filter — past its life, the wrong one for the model, or not seated
- Supply pressure, which is a real variable in older buildings
- The fill valve, which weakens rather than failing outright
- The freezer compartment itself running warm, which imitates a broken ice maker exactly
- The ice maker module: harvest motor, mold heater, thermostat

### The fast ice makers

The upper series produce a great deal of ice quickly, which means they demand more of everything that feeds them and they are a more expensive assembly to replace. Both are reasons to diagnose rather than swap.

What this involves

Filter, pressure and the fill valve

Ice maker module and its harness

Dispenser controls and the water line

Water in, before ice out

Filter age, line pressure and the fill valve. A great many ice complaints are a filter past its life or a line pinched when the refrigerator was pushed back.

Is the freezer actually cold?

An ice maker in a compartment two degrees warm behaves exactly like a broken ice maker. Checking that first has saved a lot of people a part they did not need.

The module itself

The harvest cycle, the mold heater and the sensor, tested rather than swapped. The fast ice makers on the upper series are a more expensive assembly and worth diagnosing properly.

Run through a harvest

We wait for a full cycle rather than signing off on a fill. It is the difference between a machine that made ice once and one that makes ice.
