# Bosch dryer not heating

### The fastest diagnosis is the code

There is a published code for the heating circuit and it means what it says — that one is a technician job. There is also a published code for a blocked lint filter, and that one you can clear yourself in two minutes.

### Why air comes before heat

A condensation dryer cools its own exhaust, drops the water out and reheats what is left. Nothing goes outside. So there is more air path to block than on a vented machine, and a blocked one produces warm damp laundry after a full cycle — which is exactly what a failing heating element produces.

### The filter test

Hold the lint filter under a running tap. Water should pass straight through. If it pools on the surface, the mesh is sealed with fabric softener residue, and the machine has been running with almost no airflow. Scrubbing it with warm soapy water is free and it is the single most common fix on this page.

The lint filter, sealed rather than clogged

Fabric softener leaves a film that seals the mesh. It looks clean and passes almost no air. Hold it under a tap — if water sits on it instead of through it, that is your problem.

The secondary filter or condenser unit

There is more than one filter on these machines, and the second one is the one nobody knows about.

The condensate path

A drain hose kinked behind a stacked pair, or a tank nobody has emptied. A dryer that cannot get rid of water cannot dry.

The heating circuit

The element and its safety devices. Has its own published code, and the manufacturer's own guidance is that it needs a technician. We agree with that one.

Electronics after a power cut

Common in storm season. Several codes clear with the machine unplugged for a few minutes — and if it comes back, it means something.

Run water through the lint filter

If it pools instead of passing through, scrub it with warm soapy water and a soft brush. This alone fixes a great many of these.

Find the second filter

Check the manual for your model — there is usually one behind a flap at the bottom, and on some models a condenser unit that rinses out.

Check the condensate drain or tank

Hose kinked behind a stacked pair, or a tank that has never been emptied because nobody knew about it.

Unplug for five minutes

Then run a short cycle. If the code stays, photograph it and book.

Air first, then heat

What it usually means

Runs a full cycle, clothes still damp

No warmth at all in the drum

Stops early with a code
