# Bosch washer leaking

### The fastest diagnosis is the code

If the machine has stopped and shown a code about water in the base, it has caught the leak itself and shut down. Turn the tap off and leave it off — that lockout is the machine deciding to stop rather than continue.

### When it leaks tells us where

- **Only while filling:** inlet hose or its connections, usually behind the machine
- **During the wash:** door seal, or the pump filter not sealed
- **On the spin:** the drain hose leaving the standpipe under pressure
- **Between cycles, machine off:** the inlet valve weeping

### The base pan sensor

Like the dishwasher, these machines have a sensor that catches water in the base and shuts everything down. If yours has stopped with that code, the protection worked. The leak is still upstream of it and the machine will keep refusing until it is fixed and the pan is dry.

The door seal

Debris caught in the fold, or a seal that has hardened. Water appears at the front during the wash rather than the fill.

The inlet hose or its connection

Water only while filling, and usually behind the machine rather than in front. Worth checking the washers in the fittings.

The pump filter not sealed

After somebody has cleaned it. It has to be screwed fully home, and the flap closed. Extremely common and free to fix.

Too much detergent

Foam escaping past the door seal is not a leak, and it is a great deal more common than people expect on compact high-efficiency machines.

The drain hose connection

At the standpipe, where a hose that is not secured jumps out under pressure and empties onto the floor.

Turn the tap off

First, especially above the ground floor. Everything else can wait.

Work out when it leaks

Filling, washing, or spinning. Each points at a different part, and it is the single most useful thing you can tell us.

Check the pump filter is home

If anyone has cleaned it recently, it is the first suspect. Screwed fully in, flap closed.

Halve the detergent for one load

If the water is foamy, this settles it in one cycle and costs nothing.

Urgent above the ground floor

What it usually means

Water on the floor in front

Water only during the fill

The machine has stopped over water in its base
