Symptom
Bosch oven baking unevenly
One side browning faster than the other, a tray that has to be turned halfway, or results that changed without the recipe changing. On a convection oven this is the fan more often than an element.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The convection fan
Not turning, turning slowly, or its motor on the way out. The commonest cause of uneven results on these ovens and often audible if you listen.
Oven element & sensor repair from $165 -
A door that no longer seals
Heat escaping along the top or one side gives a permanently cooler zone. The paper test works on an oven door too.
Door seal & hinge repair from $135 -
A partly failed element
An element with a section that no longer glows heats one part of the cavity and not another. Visible while preheating.
Oven element & sensor repair from $165 -
The sensor reading wrong
The oven holds the wrong temperature confidently, which reads as everything being slightly off rather than as one side being wrong.

Loading and cookware
Dark tins, two crowded trays, or foil on the floor of the cavity blocking airflow. All produce exactly this and none is a repair.

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

01
Bake a tray of anything cheap
Bread slices or biscuits, one tray, center shelf. The pattern of browning is a better diagnostic than most instruments.
-
02
Listen for the fan
On a convection setting, with the oven warming. It should be clearly audible and steady.
-
03
Paper test the door
Around the whole frame, especially the top corners. A sagging door loses heat from one place consistently.
-
04
Take the foil out
Anything on the cavity floor blocks the airflow the oven was designed around, and it is a common cause of exactly this.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
A shortcut
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.
If there is no code at all
The data plate is inside the cabinet, upper left wall or behind the grille. All models

About Bosch oven baking unevenly
The fastest diagnosis is the code
There is unlikely to be a code — the oven does not know its results are uneven, only what its sensor reads. What tells us most is what you were cooking, on which shelf, and which side came out darker.
The tray of biscuits test
One tray, center shelf, something cheap and evenly spaced. What comes out tells you where the oven is losing or concentrating heat, and it is more useful than any description. Photograph it — we can often read it at a glance.
Fan before element
On a convection oven the fan is doing most of the work of making the cavity even. When it slows or stops, the oven reverts to heating from its elements alone and everything that used to bake evenly stops doing so. It is the first thing we check and the most common answer.

Before you book
Questions about bosch oven baking unevenly
It only happens with two trays.
That is usually loading rather than the oven. Two crowded trays block the circulation convection depends on — stagger them and leave space at the sides.
Is the fan expensive?
It sits in the middle of this page's range. Worth diagnosing properly, because a fan that turns slowly and a fan that has stopped are different parts.
The oven used to be fine.
Then something changed, and the door and the fan are the two things that change gradually. Both are worth checking before anything else.
