The one that is not a repair
Near the water, the outside end of the duct ages first. A wall or roof cap with a corroded damper stops opening and the kitchen stays smoky behind a hood that sounds perfectly healthy. Checking that from outside costs nothing and it explains a great many "weak" hoods.
